About the Play
“Akeelah and the Bee” follows the journey of Akeelah Anderson, an 11-year-old girl from Chicago, who overcomes challenges to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Her story highlights themes of self-belief, hard work, and the support of family and community. This play is based on the acclaimed 2006 film and brings a message of empowerment, determination, and growth.
• Age Range: We are looking for actors who can portray characters aged 10-50+.
• Diversity Encouraged: This production values diversity in casting and encourages actors of all backgrounds to audition.
