In this hilarious Christmas classic, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids – probably the most inventively awful kids in history. You won't believe the mayhem – and the fun – when the Herdmans collide head-on with the story of Christmas! This delightful show is adapted from the bestselling 1970s Young Adult book, and has become a holiday staple.
Adults and kids (ages 8-14) of any background are invited to audition with us! Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Audition sides will be posted here the week before auditions to familiarize yourself with the readings, but please do not memorize the sides.

Callbacks (if needed) will be Weds, Oct. 23rd for kids and adults.
Rehearsals will start Tuesday, Oct. 29th and run through the Opening Night performance. There will be no rehearsals on Oct. 31st or the Weds - Sat of Thanksgiving. **Please bring any additional scheduling conflicts with you to auditions.

Cast of Characters
Adult Roles:
GRACE BRADLEY (MOTHER). 35ish - capable wife of Bob and mother to Beth and Charlie; gets stuck with directing the annual Christmas pageant.
BOB BRADLEY (FATHER). 38ish - Husband to Grace and father to Beth and Charlie; solid family man.
MRS. ARMSTRONG. 50s+. Managerial, in voice and manner; largish, bossy, impatient.
MRS. SLOCUM. 35-60+. Pleasant, motherly woman
MRS. CLARK. 40-60+. Involved and concerned church ladies
MRS. CLAUSING. 40-60+. Involved and concerned church ladies
MRS. McCARTHY. 35-50s. A younger, less imperious version of Mrs. Armstrong
REVEREND HOPKINS. 40s+. A nervous-about-most-everything pastor
FIREFIGHTER 1. Ready for any fire FIREFIGHTER 2. Ready for any fire
Kid Roles: Students must be age 8-14 to audition.
BETH BRADLEY. 10-12ish. A lead role who is also the show’s narrator. Grace & Bob’s daughter. Beth needs a strong voice and stage presence; she is in most scenes dealing with a range of moods and situations.
CHARLIE BRADLEY. 8-9; Beth’s typical kid brother.
THE HERDMANS —

RALPH. 12-13. The oldest Herdman; ragged, scroungy, slouching manner, touch of
adolescent cool.
IMOGENE. 11-12 Loud, bossy, tough, crafty. The Herdman leader.
LEROY. 10-11. Tough, very sure of himself.
CLAUDE. 8-9. Tough, combative. A crime buddy to Ollie.
OLLIE. 8-9. Boy or girl. Always looking for trouble. Claude’s usual partner in crime.
GLADYS. 7-8. Small, wiry, feisty. Often funny; sometimes means it.
ALICE WENDLEKEN. 10-11. Prim, proper, pain in the neck.
MAXINE: 10-11. Beth’s Sunday school classmate.
ELMER. 12-13. The minister’s son; dislikes church; not fond of the Herdmans.
HOBIE. Sunday school kids in the pageant, various ages 7-10.
DAVID. Sunday school kids in the pageant, various ages 7-10.
BEVERLY. Sunday school kids in the pageant, various ages 7-10.
JUANITA. Sunday school kids in the pageant, various ages 7-10.
DORIS. Sunday school kids in the pageant, various ages 7-10.
ADDITIONAL ROLES. Various ages, 8 and up. Angel Choir members; baby angels, shepherds.

No acting experience is necessary to audition! Auditions will be held on ACT's main stage. Performances are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, during the first two weekends in December. Actors must be available for ALL (6) performances.
