University Theatre Winter 2026 AuditionsMr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play
By Anne Washburn
Directed by Elizabeth Helman
Music Direction by Nicholas Larson
Open group auditions for the University Theatre winter 2026 production of Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric play will be held November 16 and 17 at 6:00 pm in GVGC 106. An additional invited call-back will be November 18 at 6:00 pm if necessary.
Anne Washburn’s Mr. Burns is set in a not-so-distant future following an apocalyptic event that has wiped out all electricity and civilization as we know it. Soon after the mysterious catastrophe, a group of survivors attempts to cope with their new reality by re-telling familiar sitcom plots as campfire stories. As time passes, traveling theatre groups have emerged from the rubble of society creating new forms of art and entertainment from the ashes of popular culture. This funny and chilling play explores the roots of myth and the essential role art plays in human survival.
WHAT TO PREPARE: The open audition evenings will include group singing with the production’s music director and some cold readings from the script. While Mr. Burns is not a traditional musical, it is a play with music and all cast members are required to sing in the production. To prepare for the open audition, please familiarize yourself with the melody of “Hectic Day." A pdf of the script and the sheet music for “Hectic Day” are available to read by visiting our official audition page at: https://liberalarts.oregonstate.edu/svpda/theatre/students/auditions
