Today, Emma heads deep into the Appalachian hills to face a man she has feared for much of her adult life, the Reverend Mr. Cahill. During her journey by horseback, Emma brings to life the Mountain folk she serves. This One-Woman show is infused with the spirit of the Mountains as embodied in music and myth. Minister of Sorrow is a powerful drama of retribution and redemption.

Auditioning at Stage Left:
• Deadline to sign up to audition is July 5 at 7pm. You will be emailed a selection from the script by July 6 at noon to look over for your audition on July 7. Auditions begin promptly at 6pm at Stage Left Theater, 108 W 3rd Ave.
• Please DO NOT ARRIVE MORE THAN 5 MINUTES EARLY.
• This is a full-length one-woman show with accompanying musician. You'll be auditioning for the role of Emma.
EMMA – A strong but tender hearted Kentucky Woman, horseback librarian.
Actor will portray multiple characters of different backgrounds.
Emma paints the picture of 1930s Appalachia and the people residing in her mountains.
• While Minister of Sorrow is not a musical and no prepared songs are needed for this group audition, auditioners will be taught a song as a group and asked to sing as part of the audition. The character of Emma sings many times during the show, but not as a trained or professional singer.
• You may submit a video audition if you can not attend the audition in person. If you would like to submit by video, please select that option further down the form. You will be sent sides by July 6 at noon, and you should include an acapella version of Amazing Grace along with your side read. Then email either your video or a link to your video before midnight, July 7 to us at [email protected]. Please put "MINISTER AUDITION" in the subject line.
• If cast, you will be provided a gas/parking stipend of $300, paid on or before Closing Performance and share with the musician in the Actors Tip Pool collected during the run of the show.
• Plan on being at the audition during the entire time. Water will be provided. You may not be there the entire time, but it's good to prepare to be.
• If you have a headshot and/or resumé, please bring them with you, or attach below. These are not requirements to audition! If you do not have a headshot, we may request to take a photo of you after your audition. These will be used only for casting purposes and not shared anywhere else.
• Please fill out any known conflicts that you may have during the rehearsal and production dates at the bottom of this form. Be honest: Better to list conflicts than to surprise us later. Having conflicts does not preclude you from being cast EXCEPT during Tech Week (NOV 30 - DEC 5) and Show Dates (DEC 6 - DEC 23).
• Remember, if we do not cast you, it doesn't mean that you didn't audition well, or that others were more talented than you. Many factors go into the casting process, and often excellent auditions do not lead to an offered role, while "less-than-stellar" audition do! There are often times when a show is cast and then changes are made after that casting due to conflicts, illnesses, etc., so maintaining a positive outlook during and after auditioning is crucial. More than anything, you are here to show us who you are. Be yourself. HAVE FUN.
