Only the Inn's handyperson Andy sees who Mr. Smith really is, the spirit of Christmas. Andy must help him make Art, who's been in a dark place for a very long time, see the joy of Christmas and who Mr. Smith really is!
Characters:
JENNY RYAN - Warm Friendly. Tom is her husband. He is the dreamer and she is the pragmatist. They are good people.
TOM RYAN - He is a nice average guy. He thinks of himself as quite a comedian but the Leno show won't be calling anytime soon. His humor is never biting or satirical.
ANDY - Andy is mentally challenged. He views the world in very simple terms but is capable of surprising intuition because of his unique point of view. He works for Tom and Jenny as a "handyman" but has become more than that. He has become part of their family. Dress and demeanor should suggest Mountain Man. He must be played with honesty and respect. He should be about the same age as Tom and Jenny or older. (NOTE: Andy can be played by a woman)
ART CRAMER - Jenny's father. He is a widower. A fact that weighs heavily on him.
RUDY POZNARSKI - Big, brass, bold, but never obnoxious. He would make a good used car salesman. When they are handing out etiquette and social grace, Rudy was probably last in line. He is also a walking "Galmour Don't." He can be played with a drawl to add to his "hickness." Above all, he must remain friendly and likeable.
MARSHA POZNARSKI - Marsha is a very, very pregnant wife of Rudy. She may be played with a drawl.
MR. SMITH - A sophisticated, well dressed, middle age gentleman. He should have a twinkle in his eye and an irresistible smile. The character is much more than he appears. He is goodness personified. He should be smaller in stature, but with a dazzling aura. NO FACIAL HAIR.
