Show Summary: "There are two ways to be real," the Skin Horse says. "The first is when you are real to one special child, and the second is when you are real to the world." More than anything he wants to be a real rabbit—real to the world. One night, the Toy Fairy offers him his chance, but he must leave with her immediately. The boy, who is ill with scarlet fever, will die without him. Will the Velveteen Rabbit go with the Toy Fairy, or will his love for the boy cause him to turn his back on the thing he wants most? If he stays, what will happen to him? Margery Williams' beloved tale is faithfully told and carefully expanded for the stage. The Velveteen Rabbit provides audiences with comedy, pathos, adventure and a final triumph for the hero, who learns that love makes all things real.
Casting for these Characters:
( Note: All Ages and Genders Can Be Flexible If you think you could be a good male fairy or female doctor for example, go for it and we'll see what happens!)
Skin Horse Age: late 40s+ (Male) Kind but stern when the toys misbehave. Is a parental figure for the other toys. Has been in the family for generations.
Toy Fairy Age:18-40s (Female) Wise and kind. Guides toys who are lost, broken, or in need.
Other Toys Age:~10-15
Fluffy, The Velveteen Rabbit (Male) Innocent, sweet, and new to the world so doesn't understand how it works. Wants to become a real rabbit.
Timothy, The Wooden Lion (Male) Likes to pick on Bulka. Can be rude at times, but is polite when saying thank you and helping others. Has a dust allergy
Wind-upMouse (Any Gender)Bossy and sometimes rude. Thinks they're better than everyone else.
Bulka,The Rag Puppy (Any Gender) Is afraid of everything and faints at the first sign of danger. Is picked on by the other toys for being dusty.
Forest Rabbits Age:~15-20 Both older and claim to be “more mature” than The Velveteen Rabbit. Both are suspicious of whether or not The Velveteen Rabbit is real.
Rabbit 1 (Any Gender) Cautious of unfamiliar things.
Rabbit 2 (Any Gender) Curious, takes the lead.
Alex Age:~8-12 (Male) Sweet kid with a lot of energy, can't sit still, but is creative and kind, and listens to his Nana.
Nana Age: late 40s+ (Female) Kind, and caring. Wants Alex to be happy and healthy. Possible grandmother, but has been in the family for generations regardless.
Doctor Age: 20s-40s (Male) Comically serious and blunt, humor goes over his head. No room for sentimental feelings. Has to have his inner child drawn out.
