The Green Room Community Theatre will hold auditions for “The Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963” on Monday, Dec. 16, and Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, at 7 p.m. Directed by Sidney Horton, the production is based on the acclaimed novel by Christopher Paul Curtis and tells the powerful story of a African-American family’s journey from Flint, Michigan, to Birmingham, Alabama, during the Civil Rights Movement of 1963.The director is seeking actors, preferably African American, to fill a variety of roles in our upcoming production. In order to honor the story’s historical authenticity and context, the director aims to cast, preferably, an all African-American ensemble.
We are looking for performers who can convincingly portray the following character ages:
a 6-year-old girl
Two 10-year-old boys
Two teenage boys
A grandmother around 60 years old.
Additionally, we have roles available for adults, preferably African Americans in their 30s and older.
Important Notes:
You must be available for all performances scheduled for February 21, 22, 23, 28, & March 1, 2, 2025 and a Producer’s night TBD.
