ABOUT THE SHOW:
“What do you do when you’re not sure?” asks the progressive and beloved priest at St. Nicholas Church School in his sermon. But when it is reported that one of the boys returned to class with wine on his breath, the rigid school principal suspects the priest of inappropriate relations with the student. The priest maintains that he is innocent, but what is the truth of the matter? "Doubt can be a bond as powerful and sustaining as certainty.”
ROLES/CHARACTERS:
Sister Aloysius Beauvier - The principal of St. Nicholas School. Stern, conservative, and deeply suspicious of progressive ideas and changes within the Church. She believes in strict discipline and has a strong sense of duty to protect her students.
Father Brendan Flynn - A charismatic young priest who seeks to make the Church more inclusive and less intimidating. He delivers sermons that are thoughtful and aimed at understanding and compassion.
Sister James - A young nun, enthusiastic and naive. She teaches history and is fond of her students. Her innocence and optimism are challenged by the suspicions and accusations that unfold.
Mrs. Muller - The mother of Donald Muller, the school's first African American student and the boy at the center of Sister Aloysius’s suspicions. She is pragmatic and protective of her son and his future.
