A Perfect Ganesh follows two WASP women on a vacation to India without their husbands. What starts an innocent vacation, turns into a spiritual journey for both women led by the god Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, who helps guide them through facing the losses and tragedies that both have buried deep inside. With Ganesha spiritually by their side, the women’s journey through India is funny and poignant with both finding the inner peace that they have longed for – self forgiveness for the past, and renewed friendship to face future obstacles.
Characters –
Margaret Civil – 40’s and up. Reserved, no nonsense woman. Keeps much of her feelings buried inside.
Katharine Brynne – 40’s and up. Forthright and enthusiastic. Loves to talk about everything she see as a defense mechanism to not talk about herself and her feelings.
Man – Any age. Actor that plays multiple roles throughout the play – Katharine’s sone, a leper, various tourists and workers they meet along the way. Strong character actor.
Ganesha – Any age. Ganesha guides the action and shapes the journey for the women. Playful, uplifting and joyous in his actions. Wears an elephant mask for most of the play.
