Lerner and Loewe’s majestic Camelot brings the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table to life with an extraordinary score and a story that poignantly dramatizes the human conflict at the heart of this classic tale. Based on T.H. White’s novel, The Once and Future King, Camelot tells the story of Arthur, a young squire who becomes King after extracting the sword Excalibur from its legendary rock. This version is imagined as a traveling troupe of eight Revelers who in Story Theatre style play multiple roles use simple props to create the world of Camelot.
The musical follows Arthur from a young, ambitious, idealistic King who dreams of creating a just society to the despairing king bearing witness to his dream’s demise. Arthur’s dream is inspired by his vivacious Queen Guenevere. Together, they create a kingdom where might works at the service of right and the King serves at a round table with no head — a symbol of collaboration and unity. But just as this utopian vision starts to become reality, everything begins to unravel. When Guenevere falls in love with Arthur’s most celebrated, beloved, and loyal knight, Lancelot, they begin a romance as doomed as it is passionate. Their troubles are compounded when Arthur’s illegitimate son, Mordred, arrives on the scene. In a world of human realities, can Camelot achieve the utopia of which Arthur dreams?
ABOUT AUDITIONS:
Prepare 16 - 24 bars (one verse and a chorus) of a song in musical theatre style. Bring sheet music marked for accompaniment. If you use a .mp3, you may plug into our speaker or bring your own (use karaoke or accompaniment tracks only). Choose a song that enhances and shows off your singing skills - usually not a song from the play for which you are auditioning. You may also be asked to take part in movement or dance auditions, where the choreographer will ask you to learn a few steps. Please no a capella auditions. Callbacks will consist of cold readings from the script.

Plays Squire Dap, Mordred Vocal range top: D4 - bottom: A2 Character is male and can be played by any gender, late teens to early 20s, any ethnicity. Mordred – The illegitimate son of King Arthur. A deeply troubled young man, vengeful and full of resentment. Singularly focused on his hatred for his father. Squire Dap – is a loyal and devoted squire to Lancelot.

Plays Dinadan Vocal range top: G4 - bottom: B2 Character is male and can be played by any gender, 20s to 30s. Any ethnicity. Sir Dinadan – Is the eldest of Arthur’s knights. The surliest and most stuck in their ways. Believes in the ideals of the Round Table and remembers what the world was like before Arthur brought order to it. Devoted to Guenevere but doesn’t care for Lancelot.

Plays Sagramore Vocal range top: G4 - bottom: B2 Character is male and can be played by any gender, 20s to 30s. Any ethnicity. Sir Sagramore - A knight of the Round Table. Physically impressive. The most hot-tempered of the group yet is steadfast and loyal. Holds out against Mordred’s manipulations against Arthur until there is no way to deny the wrongdoing any further. Devoted to Guenevere but doesn’t care for Lancelot.

Plays Lionel Character is male and can be played by any gender, 20s to 30s. Any ethnicity. Vocal range top: G4 - bottom: B2 Sir Lionel - Is young and hot-headed. In trouble often due to temper and has a reputation among fellow knights for needing to be rescued from consequences of this. Deeply passionate and not always very wise. The most thoughtful of the knights believes in a firm class order. Devoted to Guenevere but doesn’t care for Lancelot.

Plays Tom Character is male and can be played by any gender, from Mid-teens to early 20s. Any ethnicity. Vocal range top: G4 - bottom: B2 Tom – Is a young boy who’s left his family to fight for the Round Table. Pure of heart, a great future leader, and terribly brave for his age and size.

Plays Arthur Character is male (cis or transgender), 20s to 30s. Any ethnicity. Vocal range top: F4 - bottom: Bb2 King Arthur - Is an idealistic, compassionate, and generous young King. He tends to be unsure of himself but serves as a huge inspiration to others and strives to lead based on honor and chivalry. He has deep loyalty and love to both Guenevere and Lancelot.
INTIMACY NOTICE: The role requires physical intimacy in the form of touch and kissing with Guenevere.

Plays Guenevere Character is female (cis or transgender), 20s to 30s. Any ethnicity. Vocal range top: A5 - bottom: A3 Queen Guenevere – Is passionate and frequently underestimated. Frustrated with expectations, she looks to carve her own path with her sharp intellect and wit. She loves Arthur but is in love with Lancelot.
INTIMACY NOTICE: The role requires physical intimacy in the form of touch and kissing with both Arthur and Lancelot.

Plays Lancelot Character is male (cis or transgender), 20s to 30s. Any ethnicity. Vocal range top: G#4 - bottom: A2 Sir Lancelot - Is abundantly self-assured knight from France who is a passionate disciple of Arthur and his Round Table. Attractive and cocky but has a profound sense of duty. His love for Guenevere eventually becomes his downfall. NEEDS: a French accent.
