SYNOPSIS:
Newlyweds Paul and Corie Bratter begin their married life in a tiny, quirky New York City apartment. Corie is a free-spirited romantic, while Paul is a straight-laced lawyer. As they navigate the challenges of marriage, eccentric neighbors, and meddling mothers, they must learn how to compromise and embrace each other’s differences. This classic romantic comedy is filled with Neil Simon’s signature wit and charm.
ROLES AVAILABLE:
(Seeking a diverse cast; all ethnicities are encouraged to audition.)
•Corie Bratter (Female, 20s) – A lively, impulsive newlywed who embraces adventure and romance. She is optimistic, playful, and determined to make her new home and marriage exciting.
•Paul Bratter (Male, 20s-30s) – A serious, hard-working young lawyer. More practical and reserved than Corie, but deeply in love with her. He struggles to balance his career ambitions with Corie’s spontaneity.
•Ethel Banks (Female, 50s-60s) – Corie’s loving but overprotective mother. Traditional and somewhat nervous, she struggles to understand her daughter’s carefree lifestyle but ultimately wants her happiness.
•Victor Velasco (Male, 50s-60s) – The eccentric, charming, and flirtatious upstairs neighbor. A bohemian spirit with a love for life, he adds humor and wisdom to Corie and Paul’s world.
•Telephone Repair Technician (All genders, 30s-60s) – A practical, no-nonsense worker with a dry sense of humor. Observes the young couple’s dynamic with amusement.
•Delivery Person (All genders, 40s-70s) – An exhausted, world-weary older person who struggles up the stairs with deliveries, providing comedic moments.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
•Be prepared to read from the script (provided via email prior to or at the audition).
•Audition may include cold readings and chemistry tests.
