Centenary Social Justice Theatre announces auditions for their fall production of The Thanksgiving Play. The Thanksgiving Play by Larissa FastHorse is a satirical comedy that revolves around four white individuals attempting to create a politically correct pageant to celebrate both Turkey Day and Native American Heritage Month. The cast include four adults, two females and two males. Auditions will take place on Sunday, May 19th at 4 p.m. and Monday, May 20th at 6:00 p.m. at Centenary Church, 501 S. 2nd Street, Mankato. Callbacks if needed will take place on Monday, May 20th.
FastHorse, the playwright, is the first Native American woman known to have a play produced on Broadway. The play exposes the way history has been and continues to be told, even by well-meaning people, in ways that perpetuate a false narrative. According to a 2023 New York Times review of The Thanksgiving Play, FastHorse creates an “hilarious envelope in which she delivers a brutal satire about mythmaking.”
The Thanksgiving Play will be presented Thursday through Saturday, September 26, 27 and 28 with rehearsals beginning September 3rd. Separate scenes involving youth and children will be pre-filmed for use in the production. More information about the opportunity for youth and children will be provided at a later time.
