Monday 23rd February – Saturday 28th February 2026. Each performance starts at 7:30pm
Date, time and Location of the audition
Auditions are at Chorley Theatre on Sunday 16th November 2025.
Auditions for the female roles are 10am – 11:30pm. Auditions for the ensemble/Branwell roles are 11:30pm – 1pm.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals are expected to be 2–4 times a week (depending on cast & theatre availability), likely on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Rehearsals will begin on Monday 5th January 2025 with a read through taking place in November 2025.
The play
Underdog: The Other Other Brontë by Sarah Gordon is a witty, satirical play that reimagines the Brontë sisters with a modern edge. Anne, often forgotten and overshadowed by Charlotte and Emily, finally steps forward to challenge her place as the forgotten “other” Brontë. Through sharp humour and a knowing look at how history picks its favourites, The play looks at sibling rivalry, creativity, and the erasure of women writers from history.
The Parts (overview)
Charlotte Brontë (Character is female – 20s – 40s – the eldest sister – Lead role)
Emily Brontë (Character is female – 20s to 40s – the middle sister – main role)
Anne Brontë (Character is female – 20s to 30s – the youngest sister – main role)
Branwell Brontë (Character is male – 20s to 40s – the only brother – supporting role)
Multi-rolling male ensemble x4 (any age 16+, will be a mixture of male & female speaking parts as well as background work)
The Brontë siblings all require a Yorkshire accent.
***Please note that due to demand - we are now open to female actresses to also audition for the roles of Branwell and the mutil-rolling ensemble***
