YOUBEEPASTABLASTER
LARA ROSE
SYDNEY MANOWITZ & NICK SHEEN
youbeepastablaster is the solo project of Izzy Fyfe. She uses drones, noise walls, frantic drum machines, and spoken word poetry to convey her emotions and ideas. She aims to create a feeling in the listener’s body and mind. Her style is ever-changing and can be hard to pin down, but is firmly nestled under the umbrella of experimental audio defilement.
Lara Rose is a Dunedin-based singer songwriter. She has established her style of indie-folk, using writing to reflect on aspects of her own experiences. She toured the nation as one half of the folk duo, Tall Folk. In January 2022 they released their debut album ‘Wiser’, recorded at Port Chalmer’s Chick’s Hotel and brought to life by Dunedin’s most talented musicians.
Lara will play a mixture of both songs from the album as well as new material she has been working on, sharing these songs in their raw stripped-back form.
Nick started playing the violin when he was 6. He played for about 20 years, including several times in National Secondary Schools Orchestras and National Youth Orchestras. At university Nick had a difficult choice between studying performance music, but ended up studying maths and physics. He took 20 years off from playing for various reasons. Since then he’s been playing again more on than off for 10 years, including some time with the Dunedin Collegiate Orchestra. He currently works as an arborist and sawyer when he’s not sawing on his violin.
Born in London, Sydney studied violin first at the Royal Academy of Music, before gaining a Fulbright scholarship for further studies at the Juilliard School in New York, where he took lessons with the noted teacher Ivan Galamian. For 20 years, until 2015 he was Concertmaster with the Southern Sinfonia of Dunedin, now the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra. Nowadays he focuses on recitals, and enjoys teaching young violin players. Other times he loves reading stories to his 3 grandchildren.
We'll set up the sofa, chairs, bean bags and cushions for you, but feel free to bring extra cosiness.
An intimate, lounge style experience of music for you, which includes conversational interludes with the musicians about their stories, craft and instruments.
Our alcohol free, all ages series is held at A Y U Community Space, 7 Crawford St, with the generous support of Creative New Zealand.
