Discover the amazing world of Australian native bees with Beck Stevens. Make a bee hotel to take home and hang up in your garden!
Did you know there are over 2,000 species of native bees in Australia? Unfortunately, some species are under threat. BUT... you can help by building biodiversity across urban environments!
Beck will introduce you to some of the species that use bee hotels as nesting sites in and around the Adelaide area and what you can do to help look after them. She will explain the key elements of a good bee hotel and important food plants to include in your garden.
Cost - $10 includes a bee hotel to take home.
Suitable for adults. Bookings essential.
For more information please phone Aldinga Library on 8384 0022.

About Beck Stevens
Beck Stevens has a background in health, education and science and regularly provides community workshops in these areas. She is a horticultural and agricultural scientist, with a special interest in entomology, and is currently undertaking a PhD exploring the effect of netting on insect populations and biodiversity in apple orchards.
Beck recently investigated bee hotels located in community gardens and parklands across the wider Adelaide region. Her research has increased our knowledge about native bees in urban areas, their essential food sources, and the key elements of an effective bee hotel. She is passionate about building strong, resilient, and sustainable communities that are linked with their food sources and have a sense of environmental stewardship.
Beck actively communicates this passion in her community engagement roles as the co-ordinator of ‘Happy Patch Community Garden’ and ‘The Happy Pantry Community Food Co-operative’, both located in Aberfoyle Park.
