A new wave of freight hauling made possible by automotive engineering feats at the turn of the century helped to shape the Pacific Northwest we know today. This trucking industry did not grow easily, before the complex highway system of today developed, early truckers faced many hardships traveling across the steep mountains of the Northwest on one-lane gravel roads. However, this industry's determined and hard-working drivers and operators would not be discouraged.Walla Walla’s American Truck Historical Society branch will celebrate these triumphs on September 21st at Fort Walla Walla Museum. This year marks their 40th anniversary of preserving the history of the trucking industry and its pioneers in Walla Walla.
