Genres: Hip-Hop, RapThe origin story of the Athletic Mic League begins right here in Ann Arbor, as the future MCs met each other at Ann Arbor Huron High School in the mid-90s. Initially rhyming for their own entertainment, they quickly began developing their skills into full-blown careers in rap and hip-hop, eventually spawning several classic albums as well as numerous solo careers. After an almost two-decade hiatus, the group returned to reaffirm its status as Ann Arbor legends. In 2020, AML held an epic 4-day retreat in Richmond, VA at the home of member Wes Taylor. The retreat represented not only the resurgence of the collective, but also the power of their 25+year bond of brotherhood. On the strength of that bond and their longtime commitment to innovation, the Athletic Mic League reflected on years of their impact and influence, both as a group and individually. Since that initial gathering, the members have reconvened for three additional retreats. They have also released their first collections of music since 2005, Playground Legends Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. Come experience their influential hip-hop at an A2SF stage this summer, rising up again in the very place where it was formed.
