a 10-session, arts activity & discussion workshop series
About this Event

This is a FREE workshop series that is presented by HopeWorks’ Self-care & Social Justice Project for the public centering the arts, dialogue, and connection. The Self-care & Social Justice programs are a platform for innovative projects where people can explore, reflect, and foster beloved community.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP SERIES

In this 5-session workshop, we will use the arts and the humanities as tools to explore life; joys, triumphs and dreams. We will examine social, cultural, and personal forces that can subvert and uplift spirit, identity and power. The goal is to spend true quality time reflecting on the issues that have affected your life journey; to help sort things out, illuminating your understanding, observations, experiences, values and hopes for the future.

Sessions will include engaging with poetry, music, visual arts, literature, history, ethnography, philosophy, and the interpretation of the arts. Conversations will include topics such as embodiment, change, self-awareness, and power. We will take deep breathes, laugh, learn, share and have fun! Your reflections will be expressed through a variety of art techniques such as collage, affirmations and poetry. Participants will receive a mixed-media art journal and supporting supplies. No art experience required.

This is a 5-session series that meets on Thursdays. Participants are expected to attend all sessions. Your registration enrolls you in all the classes.
