Queer Heirtage South and The Coast Is Queer are excited to a special edition History Club:At the Rainbow’s End by Clare Summerskill, performed by Artemis Theatre Company
At the Rainbow’s End by Clare Summerskill is a moving, original and powerful piece based on interviews with older LGBTQ+ people who have experienced homophobia and transphobia in care settings or in their own home when receiving care. The script-in-hand performance by members of Artemis Theatre Company carries a strong ‘ring of truth’ owing to the authenticity of the voices of the interviewees. The performance will be followed by a post-show discussion between the writer, the cast, audience members and invited guest panellists.
Although some of the content of this play makes for somewhat upsetting and uncomfortable listening, this work is intended to raise awareness of forms of discrimination that LGBTQ+ people fear and have experienced in care homes or in their own homes. It shines a light on the importance of understanding the specific challenges faced by older LGBTQ+ people. This play also seeks to engage with the social care sector and encourage dialogue to develop learning, skills and confidence to address these challenges so that LGBTQ+ people can feel safe and able to be themselves in whatever place they live in and wherever they receive care.
