To commemorate the ten-year anniversary of the Basin and Range National Monument, three friends—Paula Garrett, Julian Kilker, and Checko Salgado—working with the Friends of Basin and Range National Monument curated a photography and video exhibition documenting this remote region of Nevada, one located several hours by car north of Las Vegas, Nevada. The monument features 1,100 square miles of vast spectacular undeveloped mountains and valleys in southeastern Nevada, and its protected status preserves geological, historical, and cultural features for future generations while continuing to provide access for recreation, grazing, and military training. The Basin and Range National Monument was created by Presidential Proclamation on July 10, 2015, because of its unique geologic, natural, cultural, and scientific resources and values. The monument includes Garden and Coal valleys, the Worthington and Seaman Mountains, the Golden Gate and Mount Irish ranges, Hiko and White River narrows; and Shooting Gallery rock art site.
This event is free and open to the public. Let us know you are interested in attending.
This exhibition at the Nevada Humanities Program Gallery is supported by Nevada Humanities’ generous donors.
