ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE for BACK STRENGTHENING and PAIN MANAGEMENT Date and Time: Oct 19th and 20th 10.30am - 1pm The Alexander Technique is a practical process you can learn to help you to be more aware of how you are employing your body in whatever activity you are doing. In this way you can become more alert to actions and behaviours you might be making that may lead to back weakening and even to back pain or other musculoskeletal pain and strains. So, not only does the Technique indirectly help you develop a stronger back with less painful movement habit tendencies, but also can assist you directly to self-manage painful symptoms. You will learn simple practical procedures to strengthen your back during everyday activities. These procedures, when practised, have the added value of helping to both prevent and overcome painful symptoms. The Alexander Technique is not a direct therapy but has been shown to have reliable therapeutic effects. A controlled trial in the UK in 2008 demonstrated the effectiveness of the Technique and the organisers were astonished how the Technique had helped so many of the trial participants long-term. In this weekend of workshops you will learn how to bring the practical procedures of the Alexander Technique to bear on progressively gaining more back strength and how to self-help yourself to better manage your pain issues. Robin Simmons SBAT STAT, has been teaching the Alexander Technique since 1971. He ran an approved teacher-training programme for 40 years. BACK PROBLEMS ALLEVIATED & MEDITATION EASIER After lessons with Robin Simmons my back has certainly improved. It was giving me a lot of trouble on a regular basis before the lessons in the Alexander Technique. Now I can practice my sitting meditation, for example, without so much back trouble and I can get to be more relaxed in the activity.
