About this Event
Join local astronomers with the Greensboro Astronomy Club as we observe the night skies over the Iron Ore Belt Access. Telescopes and viewing equipment will be set up on site but you may wish to bring your own binoculars or telescope, plus a chair or blanket for seating. Attendees may expect to see closer-than-typical views of the moon, planets, star clusters, and other celestial objects subject to change with time of year and local sky darkness. Please dress for the weather and bring a flashlight (red light preferred to preserve night vision of attendees).
***Skywatching sessions may be cancelled for cloudy or poor weather conditions, so please SIGN UP in advance so you can be notified in the event of cancellation. ***
This may be a crowded event so following the below etiquette will help ensure a more enjoyable experience for everyone:
- Please use a red light at the observing session. A white light can be converted by wrapping red cellophane around your light (park staff will have this available). Please keep any light pointed at the ground. As your eyes adapt, a light is not needed at all.
- Please do not touch any telescopes or other equipment unless permission is given. Items are delicate and expensive.
- Please do not allow children or pets to run around the observing area. Pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet at all times. This is to protect others' safety and the equipment.
- Please form a orderly line behind each telescope.
