Join us for the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation Award Presentation and Lecture featuring astronaut Fred Gregory!Mr. Gregory will give insight into “Ensuring the Success of Future Human Spaceflight” on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. EDT in the Hartley Room of the Homer R. Denius Student Center.
This event is free and open to the Florida Tech community and members of the general public. No RSVP is required.
Fred Gregory is a trailblazing American astronaut and retired U.S. Air Force Colonel. His storied career began with his selection as one of NASA’s first African American astronauts in 1978. Gregory first made history in 1985 as the pilot of STS-51-B aboard the Challenger and later became the first African American to command a spaceflight during STS-33 on Discovery in 1989. His third mission, STS-44 on Atlantis, was another milestone in his illustrious career. Beyond his achievements in space, Gregory held key leadership roles at NASA, including Deputy Administrator from 2002 to 2005, during which he briefly served as Acting NASA Administrator.
