We look forward to sharing with you some of the most beautiful arias from the opera Astianatte which debuted at the Haymarket Theater in London in 1727. Giovanni Bononcini could not have imagined that this opera would garner most of its fame from a celebrated onstage fight during one of its performances: the long-standing rivalry between its two most famous stars Faustina Bordoni (Ermione) and Francesca Cuzzoni (Andromaca) reached its peak on the stage where the two began a fistfight encouraged by their fans. And neither’s contract was subsequently renewed!
