About this Event
Description:
Sauna hats are the perfect functional accessory for your next trip to the sauna! Sauna hats insulate your head while protecting your hair and your ears. We will be joined by Greg Schaffer from Bad Sauna and by our guest expert Vic Adair, who will be leading us through the process of wet felting our very own sauna hats!
21+ Nights include instruction, materials, snacks, and drinks! Free tickets are available for Garfield residents, with a selected number of scholarship tickets also available to anyone for whom full-price tickets are prohibitive.
Ticket prices cover the cost of staff time, materials, and food & beverages. Any amount made beyond these expenses goes towards supporting Assemble’s free kids STEAM programs, such as afterschool and summer camps!
About Bad Sauna:
Sauna—the Finnish practice of steam bathing—has been around for thousands of years, providing a reliable source of both individual and collective wellbeing. In fact, you can find people getting together to sweat in most times and places, from the Turkish hammam to the Lakota inipi, making steam bathing a truly universal human heritage. Bad Sauna (Swedish for “Bath Sauna”) aims to honor this tradition by reviving Pittsburgh's once vibrant public sweat culture. By doing so, we hope to lower our collective stress, create a relaxed space for civic life, and have fun. You can follow us @bad.sauna
About Greg Schaffer:

A Pittsburgh native, Greg discovered his love of sweat bathing at Archimedes Banya while living in San Francisco and has been scheming on ways to revive Pittsburgh's bathing culture ever since. Greg has received training from bath masters in five countries, including the International Bath Academy in Vilnius, Lithuania, where he received his bath masters certification in 2023.
