Experience a wild barrier island on Burnham Guides' fully-outfitted expedition into the backcountry of Assateague National Seashore.Less than three hours from D.C. on Maryland's Atlantic coast, this national treasure is famous for its wild horses, birdlife and white sand beaches. The 37-mile-long barrier island also offers paddling through bayside marshes, hiking in maritime forests, bird and pony-watching, biking, and remote backcountry camping.
From our “front country” basecamp, we’ll paddle along bayside marshes to remote backcountry campsites.
A short walk from the backcountry sites leads through maritime forest and dunes to the wild Atlantic ocean beach.
Arrive in the afternoon of the first day at Assateague Island National Seashore Campground for an Eastern Shore seafood dinner and camping. Launch next morning for 3 days/2 nights of primitive camping.
Cost: $895 per person includes quality sea kayak, camping gear, meals and guide service.
10% discount for bringing own sea kayak AND camping gear (must be approved by Burnham Guides as suitable for trip)
Not included: $30 entrance fee (per vehicle) to the park, or free with a National Park Pass.
