Joshua Banbury, ASPVA Class of 2013, is a classically trained jazz singer and opera librettist. His collaborations include performances with many of the most respected musical organizations in the country, including The New York Philharmonic, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The National Black Theatre, National Sawdust, The Kennedy Center, and The Apollo Theatre (November 4th, 2023). Most recently, he drew connections from the life of composer Billy Strayhorn and his own personal experiences to curate a tribute recital at The Phillips Collection, with pianist Aaron Diehl in January 2023. Joshua also served as Librettist in Residence with the American Lyric Theatre in 2022, considered to be one of the country’s premier mentorship initiatives for promising operatic writers. His work has been commissioned and presented by Los Angeles Opera, Washington National Opera, CAAPA, Looking Glass Arts, and Fort Worth Opera.
Upon graduating from ASPVA, Gabriella de Cárdenas signed with one of the top modeling agencies in Paris followed by additional contracts in New York, Milan, Miami, and Dallas. She praises her teachers at ASPVA for helping to develop her grace and stage presence through numerous dance, theatre, singer-songwriter and guitar performances, all of which helps her on the runway and behind the camera for campaigns like Nike, Tory Burch, Chloe and Farm Rio. She believes that in order to achieve anything one must have optimum health on a cellular level, and is now attending The University of Texas at Austin studying biochemistry as she prepares for medical school.
Brooks Huntley is a rising country singer who moved to Nashville after graduating from The Austin School for the Performing and Visual Arts. A self-proclaimed "hyper-optimistic tortured artist," his newest singles "Rush Orders" and "Don't Say It Wasn't Love" showcase his ability to express conflicting emotions through storytelling, revealing his angst and optimistic outlook in a raw but relatable fashion. Huntley's journey in the music industry is one to watch as he continues to create his own path in the country music scene with his unique style, guitar-oriented musicality, and storytelling prowess.
We are also proud to present, Cheyla White. With a natural flair on stage and a beautiful voice, Cheyla was selected to compete in American Idol. ASPVA voice coaches agree it’s not everyday you get to teach someone with a voice like hers. She currently trains with ASPVA's songwriting teacher, Charlie Magnone, who also tours with Parker McCollum. She plans to attend college to pursue a career as a speech pathologist while continuing to enjoy her love for singing.
