Leadership, Employability & Development Opportunities for Young People in Perth & Kinross
About this Event
Aspiring Coaches
Using sport to help young people gain recognised qualifications, become successful leaders in sport and develop skills for life and work to help towards a positive destination.
Part 1 - The Coaching Conference
Your journey will start with a 3-day interactive and practical-based conference designed for the current S3-S5 pupil. This will run from Monday 10th June to Wednesday 12th June 2024, 9.30am-4.00pm at Perth UHI, sports hall. During this time you will gain knowledge and experience in leadership and meet people working in sports and leisure through a variety of different workshops. Such as coaching basics, planning, leading and delivering a sports session/event, mini medics, positive coaching mindset, dealing with behaviour, inclusion and healthy lifestyles.
Part 2 - Volunteering
You will grow in confidence and be energised by leading sports sessions during Term 1 and 2. With a shown commitment to volunteering you will then take your next step to become a qualified sports coach. You will need to log your hours (25 hours) to receive Saltire Award.
Part 3 - Becoming a Qualified Sports Coach
In the application, you will choose the sport you want to gain a nationally recognised qualification in. Whilst you are gaining valuable experience and skills volunteering, the LEAD team will organise for you to attend a coaching qualification with the relevant Governing Body. In some sports, you have to be 16 years old to attend a course and therefore some courses may be organised at different times.
