Ask a Native Plant Aficionado - Plants for Wildlife at Fifth Season

Plants for Wildlife is hosting experienced native plant gardener volunteers at each of our plant kiosks during the spring planting season! Whether you are a beginner just starting out or a more seasoned gardener with a plant problem to troubleshoot, we’d like to help. Please stop by and chat with our Native Plant Aficionados!
The Aficionado at our Fifth Season kiosk is Beth Mayberry. Beth is a local Montessori educator and bird enthusiast. Four years ago, she was first introduced to the connection between planting native caterpillar host plants and restoring thriving ecosystems after reading entomologist Doug Tallamy's book, Nature's Best Hope. Since then, she has been converting her 0.2 acre West Asheville yard into a bird and pollinator paradise, removing invasive species and lawn, and planting native meadow and woodland plants. She loves teaching others about the importance of native plants, and how native ecosystems can be restored and nurtured, even in the smallest of urban spaces.
Plants for Wildlife is a pilot project, connecting local nurseries with local retailers to make it easier for shoppers to find native plants. Currently, M. R. Gardens plants are available for purchase at each of our locations. Go to https://www.plantsforwildlifewnc.com/locations/fifth-season for more information.
