Fuller’s Asian American Center invites you to its annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM) celebration. This year, Fuller APAHM will reflect on the “Past, Present, and Future of the Asian American Church” with conversations led by scholars and practitioners Soong-Chan Rah, Timothy Tseng, and Gordon Nagayama Hall, and Jessica ChenFeng.

Speaker: Soong-Chan Rah, Robert Boyd Munger Professor of Evangelism, Fuller Theological Seminary

Join us for this special worship service at Chapel in celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Dr. Soong-Chan Rah will preach and the service will be followed by a reception outside Travis Auditorium.

Title: Asian American Evangelical Church: History and Lessons

This session will examine Asian American Evangelicalism particularly over the last 50 years of the US Church. With specific emphasis on the Korean American immigrant story and the transition to a ethnic specific second generation, we will also consider the future implications for the larger Evangelical church, particularly in the equipping and empowering of Asian American churches.

Title: Changing Historical Disparities: Increasing the Personal Relevance of Psychotherapy for Asian Americans

In this lecture, Dr. Gordon Nagayama Hall covers the history of Asian American mental health disparities, discusses past and current attempts to reduce such disparities, and proposes ways all therapists can make psychotherapy more personally relevant and thereby effective for Asian Americans.
