Drive through our North Parking lot this Ash Wednesday for Ashes to Go! Rev. Betsy Stewart-Dooley will be stationed by the Unity statue in Boston Avenue park to provide this experience for all who want it.This Ash Wednesday option is particularly great for folks with busy schedules, families with very young children, and others who wish to mark the beginning of Lent but cannot attend a midweek worship service!
Ashes are an ancient sign of penitence. From the Middle Ages it became the custom to begin Lent by being marked in ash with the sign of the cross. The reminder that we are dust turns our attention to the creative power of God, and God's ability to heal the brokenness in our lives when we offer that brokenness to God. That turning to God is the work of Lent, preparation for the celebration of Easter.
We're offering Ashes-to-Go to make the reminder of need, humility, and healing available to all. The ashes you receive here are to remind us throughout the day of our need for God, of God's call to us, and of the affirmation that we are all created in the image of God.
