Featuring new and original compositions by primos, trumpeter Franciso Dimas and bassist Asher Barreras, who grew up in Old Town ABQ and have been playing music together since they quit their first dish washing job back in the late 90’s (they now play music for a living and wash dishes at home for free), the Primos Hermanos Quintet will focus on modern jazz compositions by the band members with a nod to the great jazz composers of the past. The Primos grew up playing music in jazz and symphonic groups such as the NMJW, AYSP, Outpost and All-State as well as forming their own bands to play professionally around town. After graduating Albuquerque High School Cisco went to study at U of Miami and Asher went on to UNT. Cisco currently tours with KC and the Sunshine Band and is in constant demand in Miami as a session trumpet player. Asher is playing with the local jazz and flamenco musicians in NM as well as composing for his own group. Joining Dimas and Barreras will be Kanoa Kaluhiwa, tenor saxophone; John Funkhouser, piano; and Arnaldo Acosta, drums.
