Ascent to the Bamboo Forest — A Dance Travelogue is a deeply personal contemplation of reverence for the land, the sincerity of communal rituals, and the traditional ecological knowledge gleaned from our time among the mountain villagers of Sai Duan, Vietnam.
One of the performance highlights is a departure from traditional scoring and music. Dancers will generate live sound during the performance. Working with composer Chua Jon-Lin, the dancers gathered bamboo culms, dry leaves, and other organic materials to create unusual sound textures and rhythms — breathing organically with their movement.
