The Ascension is one of the most important (and most neglected) feasts in the Liturgical Calendar. On this day, we recognize Jesus as the enthroned KING. Since our church's name comes from this idea, we've chosen the Feast of the Ascension as our "patronal feast day". We celebrate with Holy Communion and then we hold a big festival (a party that emerges from a liturgical feast). This year, we are hosting a big dance and a feast fit for a King. It won't just be English Country Dancing either! So, get ready to cut a rug for King Jesus. As in past years, we will celebrate this feast on the Eve of the Ascension, May 8th @ 6pm. The theme and style of the dance is "Medieval Disco". We know that this theme has been done soooo many times by others, but we hope to put fresh spin on it. Here's a few things we are thinking for the party (festival) following the liturgy (feast):
*disco strobes for the dance floor
dance off for the adults and kids w/ prizes
*"shout-out" style toasts (if you go longer than 10 seconds, you will be beaned with an inflatable disco ball)
*a kazoo ensemble (of course)
*funny skits
*goblet cups
*joisting matches with real inflatable horses
*face painting, bounce house, and popcorn for kids
