New provisions for Cross Laminated Timber shear wall and diaphragm design, in the AWC's 2021 Special Design Provisions for Wind and Seismic
About this Event

TOPIC:

The use of cross-laminated timber (CLT) as structural floor and roof panels has seen incredible growth in the US over the past decade. However, its use as part of a seismic and wind force-resisting system—either as a diaphragm or shear wall—has only recently been codified. This has resulted in designing CLT lateral systems through alternative means. This presentation will introduce new provisions for CLT shear wall and diaphragm design, in the American Wood Council’s 2021 Special Design Provisions for Wind and Seismic (SDPWS). The presentation will cover the detailing and design requirements for the newly defined CLT shear walls and diaphragms found in the SPDWS and the range of seismic design parameters (e.g., R values) recognized for CLT shear wall in ASCE 7-22.

SPEAKER (S):

Laura is passionate about educating others about the benefits of building with wood. She comes to WoodWorks with seven years of structural design experience. During that time, she was primarily focused on mixed-use and multifamily structures, as well as K-12 schools. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Berry College. Based in the Atlanta area, she is a member of CREW Atlanta, and is a 2018 graduate of Leadership CREW. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in Georgia.WoodWorks is a non-profit whose objective is to increase the number of wood buildings across the United States. We provide education and project assistance for architects, engineers, contractors, and developers who are looking to build their buildings with wood, be that light frame wood, or mass timber construction.

Retirees and Students Free. No need to register, just walk-in and contact me after the meeting for PDH

The room we got this fall is smaller in size, so we are limiting the attendance to less than 20. We hope to get back to large class rooms by Spring 2026 season
