This will be the first of occasional "As Weather" concerts around Sydney. All events will be by donation - contribute what you can. All weather event (within reason). Kid's and critters welcome - in fact are co-creators.
Clinton Green (b.1972) is an Australian experimental artist and performer. He works with prepared/hacked turntables and found objects as instruments.
To describe or label Clinton Green and his work is difficult as he is akin to a renaissance-man or polymath. Inventor, environmental sound artist, musician, spoken word artist and physical/visual theatre maker, are all fields of endeavour he investigates…He is continually engaged in a dialectic conversation between himself and the world that surrounds him, his art is a product of that conversation.
Clinton Green makes something akin to music. He has been active in Australian experimental music since the 1990s as a recording and performing artist, curator, facilitator, writer and researcher. He has worked with unconventional approaches to guitars, turntables and found objects as tools for new forms of musical expression. He also works with dancers, theatre and performance artists in improvised collaborative situations, and has developed a performance practice incorporating projections. Clinton runs the Shame File Music label and writes on/researches historical and contemporary aspects of Australian experimental music. He has completed artist residencies in Taiwan (2015) and Cradle Mountain, Tasmania (2017), and has performed/exhibited in Canada, Germany, Spain, Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand, and throughout Australia. His current interests and pursuits include: turntable-based sound sculpture and performance; minimal acoustic drone music; improvisation.
Jim Denley (wind instruments) and Uma Volkmer (trumpet and voice) have been musicking together in the group Bad PhotoGraphy, although this will be the first time they have worked "As Weather ." Jim says of Uma: "The last year I have had the pleasure of musicking with Uma Volkmer, a musician and artist working on Gadigal land in Sydney, Australia, and I'm very excited to hear what she will contribute to this event at Trumper Park. She describes her practice as experiment driven with a focus on collaboration, connectivity and a dialogue between visual and sonic forms. She explores texture, abstraction and materiality within her trumpeting. Since being introduced to Sydney’s exploratory scene through Splinter Orchestra in 2023, Uma’s love for improvisation has grown, although, she is in her fourth year of a composition degree at Sydney Uni."
