As She Likes It, directed by Annette Dufty, is March 13 – 16, 2025. Featured performers include a select group of new and returning ACT performers: Lauren Brown, Jan Burleson, Bradyn Crowder, Annette Dufty, Bailey Dufty, Cody Frasure, Ersa Henry, Kathryn L Hunter, Jessica Jacobs, Autumn Lowry, Julie Offutt, Sauni Rinehart, Alex Sharp, and Katie Sumner.
Director, Annette Dufty, is an ACT regular performer and director. She helmed the locally adapted play, Dracula, in 2023, and has taken on leading roles in musicals and plays, from Grandmama in The Addams Family Musical and Jacob Marley in A Christmas Carol, to Linda Loman in September’s Death of a Salesman.
As She Likes It is an anthology of short plays that features characters from Shakespeare’s canon, who step outside of the male-dominated context of their original works, sometimes into another time and place. These familiar characters from classic stories may have had muted voices in Shakespeare’s plays, but here they take center stage to discuss the choices they have made and navigate the power structures that have controlled their lives.
As She Likes It closes the 2024-25 Athens Community Theatre Dessert Series, which presents patrons with experimental, thought-provoking, and sometimes decadent theatre that might not be appropriate for all audiences and is definitely better after dinner.
All ACT Dessert Series shows are in the Willson Family Theater. Show dates and times are Thursday - Saturday, March 13 - 15, at 7:30 PM, and Sunday March 16 and 2:00 PM. Prices for ACT tickets range from $15 to $25. Patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets early, as ACT events tend to sell out on, or before, the performance date. Tickets for As She Likes It go on sale February 13.
