About this Event

Please note: This special Halloween edition of Arts & Witchcrafts will be held in our library, which is ADA accessible. Library capacity is limited – so be sure to grab your tickets early!

An occult crafts workshop, ARTS & WITCHCRAFTS is designed to use occult practices as artistic inspiration, as well as putting creativity back into your occult practices. Through working with our hands, we create a physical sense memory, making it a fun way to learn, and an easier way to integrate magic into your everyday life. Some may get overwhelmed with the amount of supplies and information they think they need to learn basic witchcraft principals, but this class is designed to streamline both into a fun afternoon. Led by artist Cherokee Presley, each class will begin with a short lecture on the metaphysical aspects of the subject, then guests will be given supplies to make their own projects.

For this October offering, we will celebrate Halloween's Pagan predecessor Samhain with a witchy jewelry making workshop in the historic and haunting PRS library, followed by a sabbath celebration in the courtyard.

Samhain, pronounced Sow-wen, is the witch's new year and celebrates the changing of the seasons from the warmer months to the cold. It's a great time for releasing unwanted energy to make way for something new, and when the veil between worlds is thinnest.

A witch’s ladder is an enchanting object steeped in folklore magic and can be used for a multitude of purposes. Traditionally they were made with ropes interwoven with feathers, bones, stones, and other trinkets. Today, most witch's ladders are made with crystal beads, charms, and are more aesthetically similar to jewelry. These items can be used as prayer beads in your practice or worn on your wrist for spiritual protection on-the-go.

This workshop is not just about crafting, but learning to incorporate simple witchcraft practices into your life with creativity and community. We will discuss how art can be used as a form of magic, and how making this craft can help you release negative energy of the past and manifest new desires.

After class there will be an optional celebration with Samhain treats and cider in the courtyard, where we will cleanse and consecrate our new creations, practice divination, and discuss all things witchy. Dress appropriately for the weather and feel free to bring your own divination tools, tarot cards, or offerings to spirits and ancestors.

Please bring your own pencil or pen.

ABOUT CHEROKEE PRESLEY

Cherokee Presley was raised by a family of artists who encouraged, or rather demanded, that she take art classes her entire life, starting from as early as she can remember. Now she primarily works as a photographer, stylist, and clothing designer, but also draws, writes, paints, sews, builds things, collages, and has dabbled in almost every medium of art.

In 2023, she started a company to host metaphysical artist retreats, after realizing how many artists she knew were also interested in metaphysics and witchcraft, most of whom did not have a like minded community to share these interests with. In planning her retreat, she came up with more art activities than attendees would have time to do, and she had the idea to expand them into art classes that would be more accessible to the public.

She has had a lifelong fascination with the occult, witchcraft, fairy tales, and folklore. She has studied astrology and tarot and is always trying to learn more.
