Jade Karas is a Lilly Scholar and student at Depauw University where she doubles majors in Art History and Chemistry, with the ambition of becoming an art conservator. Jade was a student intern at the Swope Art Museum over the winter term of 2023 – 2024. During that time, she was involved in many behind-the-scenes aspects of museum, including handling works from the Swope Permanent Collection.Originally from Southern Indiana, Karas has held a long appreciation of the work of painter and educator William Thomas Turman (Graysville, Indiana 1867 – 1960 Taft, California). Turman is well-represented at the Swope Art Museum. Turman’s painting, “Jewel Pool,” is a favorite of many patrons to the museum and is currently on display in the Main Gallery.
