Artist-Teacher-Researcher/ Summer Session
Professional Development for Art Teachers at Second Level
Saturday 6th July
8.30am-3.00pm
Rejuvenate and reinvigorate yourself artistically. Join us for an in-depth morning with a special visit to the site at Knowth, rich with megalithic art, led by archaeologist Muiris O Suilléabháin and Clare Tuffy, followed by an artist's workshop back at Highlanes Gallery, with exhibiting Artist-Teacher-Researcher-Anna O'Leary, followed by lunch and closing with an in-depth curator and artists' talk exploring the exhibition inspired by the centenery of the Friends of the National Collections of Ireland (1924-2024).
Meet at 8.30am at Highlanes Gallery, where our private bus will bring the small group (17) directly to the site at Knowth for a 9am special tour; the bus returning you to the gallery for 11am, where tea, coffee and a morning bun will be served, after which exhibiting artist Anna O'Leary will discuss her work is is tírdhreach í in the Upper Gallery, and where she will lead a practical workshop with you, finishing at 1.30pm. A light lunch of sandwich, tea/coffee will be served (in the courtyard, weather permitting) with the closing event a gathering together for a rich informal talk exploring the Artist-Teacher-Researcher-curated exhibition which includes invited living artists and many 20th century artists.
All materials, bus transfers, refreshments and lunch included, with tickets at €25 per person.
Note 1: Art Teachers, if you are also practising as an artist, please feel free to bring some examples of your work.
Note 2: After completing the session you will be emailed the CPD Certificate.
Saturday 6th July 2024 - Schedule
8.30am - Meet, Gates of Highlanes Gallery, Bus to Knowth (no latecomers)
9:00am - Arrive at Knowth Monument for special tour with Clare Tuffy & Archaeologist, Muiris O Suilléabháin.
10:15am - Return to Highlanes Gallery
11am - Refreshments - tea, coffee and morning bun in the Lower Gallery.
11: 30am–1.30pm Anna O’Leary – artist and teacher leads a practical workshop expanding from the conceptual and material concerns of her practice. https://www.lsadgraduates.ie/anna-oleary
1:30pm – Informal lunch - Courtyard, or indoors if raining (sandwich & tea/coffee, supplied)
2.00pm – 3pm Exhibition Opening and Informal Curator & Artists’ Talk, with Highlanes Gallery's Artist Teacher Researcher Curatorial Team - Eileen Brennan, Kieran Gallagher, Bairbre Geraghty, Veronica Lavin, Ciarán Power and Roisin O’Sullivan, and exhibiting artists, Selma Mekala and Anna O'Leary, and President of the Friends of the National Collections of Ireland, Dr John Turpin.
The day session is charged at €25, with bus, materials, morning refreshments & light lunch included.
