About this Event
Jeanine Michna-Bales will be joining us on October 25th at 1pm to discuss with staff and visitors about her two exhibits currently on display at IAM. We welcome everyone to this free event to directly ask the curator any questions about either exhibit currently on display.
Our latest exhibition promotes the works of Jeanine Michna-Bales, a celebrated photographer whose work has explored the impact of cornerstone relationships on contemporary society. She has focused on looking at the bonds that people have formed with others, their communities, and the very land that we inahbit. Her work is on display through the United States in multiple universities and art museums.
Her work has been highlight in multiple exhibitions that have toured the nation, including the two that are on display today. The first, Through Darkness to Light: Photographs Along the Underground Railroad, covers her decade plus journey meticulously researching "fugitive" ensalved people and the ways they escaped to freedom. The other, STANDING TOGETHER: Inez Milholland’s Final Campaign for Women’s Suffrage, will be a new exhibit that Michna-Bales curated, and it takes a unique glimpse into the American Women's Suffrage Movement, retracing the 1916 National Woman's Party Campaign and highlighting one courageous suffragist named Inez Milholland.
Join us for this free and illuminating discussion over these movements that helped define the places and people of America on October 25th. We look forward to seeing you all there and in the galleries!
Both exhibits will be on display in the Irving Archives and Museum's galleries from October 18, 2025 through January 4, 2026.
