About this Event

Join us for an intimate artist talk with Ish Muhammad in conjunction with his solo exhibition, "The Astros". Please note that space is very limited in the gallery so if you RSVP but can no longer make it, please cancel your registration so that the spot can open up for someone else. There will be chairs and standing room. If you require a chair, please let us know by contacting [email protected] or 312-361-0281. Any donations given for the artist talk are appreciated and will be given directly to the artist.

Ish Muhammad is a self-taught artist, art activist, and pioneer of the Midwest graffiti writing culture. He earned his BS in Electrical Engineering at Purdue University. Born in New York City, he has called Indiana home for the last 4+ decades. His works have been exhibited nationally and internationally in galleries, museums, site-specific installations and is in several public collections. Some of the exhibitions and collections include the Museum of Graffiti in Wynwood, Miami, Indiana Pacers, Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago Cultural Center, Zhou B Art Center, Swope Art Museum, Maison de Metallos in Paris, France, NIPSCO, Gainsbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and Graffit Heart in Cleveland, IN.

Ish’s current works are post graffiti. As an activist, he feels it is his duty to exercise his network to present contemporary art to a broader audience. He holds the position of Vice-President for the Lubeznik Center for the Arts in Michigan City and maintains a studio at the Lovelace House in Gary, IN. As a graffiti writer, he is a member of Crazy Indiana Style Artists (CISA) and XMEN Crew.
