Eyes in color is the most important project made by the notorious Italian painter Franco Azzinari, also known as “The Painter of the Wind”,
This 35-year long project aims at protecting Amazonia and its endangered people in a critical moment of our history, in which the climate change and the uncontrolled “invisible” deforestation of the rain forest are destroying the most important ecosystem of our planet.
To bring our attention to these issues, Azzinari spent for several years 3-4 months in Mato Grosso and Pantanal (Brasil) living with the indigenous people there. During his visits, the artist carried from Italy pencils, watercolor and drawing paper, to teach the indigenous children how to draw and paint.
In his own words:
“They remind me about myself as a child: I had little to eat and no colors to paint. In fact, I remember that in the morning I would look for coal in the fireplace to uses for my first drawings on wood. Now, I really love sharing my painting skills with these children: they represent the most precious creatures in the world, and they are the future of our planet. Their innocent eyes and smiles are for me the most beautiful thing in the world.”
