About this Event

Join photographers, curators and educators Sean Davey and Aishah Kenton as they share insights into building and sustaining a creative practice, and the collaborative process developed to create a series of photographs and collaborative artworks which document the Deaf Indigenous Dance Group.

This series have been acquired by the State Library of Queensland’s Collection and are currently featured in the Deaf in dance showcase. The talk will also explore the process of having works acquired for a collection, and the role cultural institutions play in collecting and displaying creative works.

This event will be supported by live captioning. Please contact the team if you require Auslan interpretation.

About the showcase

Deaf in dance honours and celebrates the distinct cultural and artistic impact DIDG have had over their 27-year history. The showcase examines how connection to culture can provide unity, pride and a sense of belonging.

About Sean Davey and Aishah Kenton

(Nur) Aishah Kenton is a photographer, artist, curator and facilitator. Having grown up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Aishah moved to Australia in 2016 and graduated from the Australian National University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (2018), majoring in photography at the School of Art and Design.

Sean (Saeed) Davey is a documentary photographer with over 20 years of professional editorial experience. Sean is currently the subject coordinator and lecturer in photojournalism in the School of Culture and Communication at the University of Melbourne.
