Home can be a permanent dwelling; it can also be a place shared with another, a temporary stopping point, a feeling, a moment.
Four photographers discuss their approach to finding home in a temporary setting: Vincent Yu, staying with his daughter in a three-week quarantine hotel room; Yu Ho Yeung, living with a family of eagle hunters in Mongolia; Wong Chilam, accompanying a man on his journey from Europe to discover his Vietnamese heritage; and Michelle Chan, using family cooking as a means of generating conversations about family history and heritage. All of their approaches involved close observations of—and participation in—a respected or treasured other's journey, highlighting the intangible home that can emerge from connection and impermanence.
Enjoy their stories, experience, and expertise on the notion of finding and documenting 'home' in a transitory state in this fourth of a series of four artist talks at the 2024 HKIPF.
