When every day, thousands of people snap casual photos of the cityscape of Hong Kong, what can we still learn about the art of the city landscape?
Urban researcher and scholar Sampson Wong draws out the wisdom and insights of three veteran photographers on photographing the city for the exhibition 'Mega Family—Imagining Home'.
Their approaches vary wildly. Lau Chi Chung takes a research-oriented approach, trawling the archive and his own memory to re-image the changing neighbourhood of North Point. Thomas Lin meticulous plays with artificial intelligence and early photographic methods to fill in gaps in Hong Kong history. Paul Yeung is decisively in the present moment, relying on colourful serendipity to capture the relationships between contemporary people and places.
Enjoy their stories, experience, and expertise in this third of a series of four artist talks at the 2024 HKIPF.
