About this Event
Matrilineal Hauntings
Artist talk by Kathy Kranias
In September of 2023 the Region of Waterloo officially declared intimate partner violence and violence against women an epidemic in our community. In Matrilineal Hauntings the ceramic interventions of Kathy Kranias acknowledge the revenant of colonialism and the ghostly apparitions of domestic violence that haunt the architecture of a once glorious Upper Canadian home. Drawing on Kranias’s family history in her matrilineal line, the exhibition is framed around the “tension between quiet violence and injustice” that parallels our current times. Join Kathy June 15th at 1 pm at Schneider Haus where she will walk you through the exhibit and speak about the experiences that helped to form these timely and impactful pieces.
Matrilineal Hauntings exhibit opens at Schneider Haus National Historic site on May 25th and will be available to view in our Historic House until September 2nd.
