About this Event
Larry Geni
I have done a lot of traveling since I retired from teaching physics at ETHS and I have taken photos in some pretty interesting places. When I come home from my travels, I choose the pictures that mean the most to me and paint them. The act of painting deepens and anchors my memories of the places I have visited.
But I don’t want to simply recreate a photo when I paint. Instead, I try to see the canvas as a physical thing that I want to make as beautiful as possible, regardless of the subject. So when I start a new piece, I study the photo for a while, then put it away and let my instincts take over. The finished product often looks quite different from the photo it was based on.
My work is driven by my deep love of nature, and by the desire to live, as much as possible, in the present moment. Painting offers a means of liberation from the daily pushes and pulls of life, a way of entering a state of mind that is clear, intentional, and spontaneous. That’s when the good work happens.

I am an abstract artist with a passion for nature, travel, and all the colors and textures I come across in my daily walks and observations. My art journey began 14 years ago when II was diagnosed with breast cancer. Ever since, I've focused on growin, experimenting, and fine tuning my craft to express the wonders I see in the every day
Discovering shapes and colors intuitively including htose inspirations informs my work. I primarily work with acrylic and collage, but enjoy playing with mark making through pastels, watercolors, oils, and whatever the painting seems to want. I love finding joy in the process of creating a piece; not knowing hwere it's going until it arrives.
