About this Event
If you're curious about the thoughts, process, and techniques behind the works of Kat Spears, Meagan Hofstetter, and Caroline Walker, make sure to attend the Artist Talk on Wednesday, February 22, from 7-9pm at the Julia C. Butridge Gallery.
Between You and Me features new paintings by Kat Spears. Spears draws on images and memories of everyday experience to explore the mysteries of perception and unselfing. Through innovations and improvisation with the material of paint, interludes of abstraction, and an oblique approach to representation, these paintings encourage close and slow attention in a visual culture that increasingly favors the quick read and the distracted scroll.
Meagan Hofstetter’s exhibit Cosmic Garden consists of intuitive abstract art that draws the viewer in with vibrant and bold colors. These new resin pieces are interactive and seem to be ever changing depending on the lighting and distance where you view them from and are best viewed in person for the full color shifting effect.
In Dreamscapes, Caroline Walker captures brief scenes from the subconscious and interprets them into sculpture and photo composite pieces, inviting viewers to briefly escape their real-world issues. If only for a few moments, Walker’s work allows the audience to lose themselves in these surreal, peaceful, and whimsical otherworldly scenes.
