Join curator Carter Wynne for an in-depth conversation with the artists of Intrinsic Tool, exploring the inspirations, themes, and creative processes behind the exhibition.

Explore the intersections of play, body, and liberation in art, and gain insight into the curatorial vision and the artist's creative process.

The talk will be followed by a Q&A, offering a chance to engage directly with the artists and curator.

ABOUT CARTER WYNNE

Carter Wynne is a Washington, D.C.-based emerging curator and self-taught artist. A former civil rights paralegal and community organizer, her work challenges dominant structures through visual rhetoric. Her curatorial practice explores the intersections of play, embodiment, and liberation, while her paintings amplify underrepresented perspectives. Carter holds a B.A. in Art History and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Colby College. She has received the MLK Jr. Drum Major for Justice Award, the Lunder Institute’s Outstanding Leadership Award, and the Oak Institute for Human Rights Scholarship. Her work has been exhibited throughout the DMV, including IA&A Hillyer and Riggs Gallery.

ABOUT THE DC ARTS CENTER’S CURATORIAL INITIATIVE

The DC Arts Center’s Curatorial Initiative reflects our commitment to curatorial practice as an integral part of supporting emerging and underrepresented artists. Each year, two apprentice curators are selected to gain experience in planning and mounting an exhibition by working with an experienced mentor curator.

The program results in three exhibitions over the course of the year. The first exhibition is curated by the mentor with the assistance of the two apprentices. Then, each apprentice curators plans and executes an exhibition with the assistance and advice of the mentor. By nurturing new curators, The DC Arts Center hopes to bring fresh perspectives into our programming while assisting a new generation of curators who will take the knowledge they gain into our arts community and beyond.
